This is an EU law, not out of England - and it’s the “General Data Protection Regulation"

It’s essentially about informed tracking consent, more than the “right to be forgotten” which is more closely associated with removal of search results from Google.

Amen. This oath is most needed in two spaces in technology: Data Science/Machine Learning/AI and Robotics.

I don’t think it’s too soon - it will need to be a living document though to keep up with the fast pace of today

Where do you see general digital literacy connecting to best everyday practices around data science. To wit, ‘we’ are a lot of expert users talking to ourselves, and our expectations likely go way above the heads of typical consumers.

What are your opinions on how recent happenings impact the relationship between advertising and social media - particularly as we see AI come into play further? Would it be too pessimistic to expect a slow process with additional data breeches, or might we see an optimistic return to things becoming more organic in nature?
Omar Zaki
01:06:14
YES! Ethics in CS curricula is moving forward but has been lacking in the past. My GT CS ethics education was Jim Greenly telling us "don't write code that drives the space shuttle with Java because the VM can crash". This was back in 2000, I think they have come a long way since.

With GDPR, we are implementing retroactively because otherwise, we are breaking the law. :)
Omar Zaki
01:10:46
We've been moving to the cloud inside and outside the EU. It takes very careful consideration and mapping. Even the "import/export" of data is considered since it's critical to the law.
Omar Zaki
01:12:47
With GDPR, we have to informed/affermative consent. We can't do opt-out. We have to opt-in. The challenge is to make it customer-centric. Bringing a value proposition to a EU citizen and telling them why it will help them to share their data.
